Day 4 Tornado Worlds

The wind was light today. Before the start we had the wind for 1 trapeeze. Windrush pulled off an extra special start at the boat end but the pressure came from below and we were looking about mid fleet. Working the boat and the wind pressure carefully we got to the top mark in about 10th and then worked away to get into 6th after the top mark for the second time. On the way down the second time a few boats got inside on pressure from behind. The final bottom mark and a German crew refused to give way to the boats on the inside. Windrush made room for Bundy but refused to put a hole in the Germans so went out the back door. The wind then moved to the left and a bunch of boats inside lifted and we got to the last mark in about 16th. Working the right on the last down wind we got back into a pack and almost pulled back into 11th but a mass finish and we were 14th.

Sony had a good start pin end and was mid fleet at the top mark.  Poor choices down wind and it was really light meant that Sony dropped back and finished about 32nd.

Bundy was 9th at the finish so the series of 1st’s was broken. Windrush spent alot of the race following and sometimes even leading Bundy and Macca. Finally we were up there and the wind was light enough for the boat to not make much difference.

Macca was in 5-10th for most of the race but ended up rolling a small pack to finish 6th.

The wind completely died and we were towed or drifted back to the yacht club. A few days ago we were in a 19 boat line being towed by 1 boat to the course as the start was 12km away.

We went to the presentation for the first long distance race last night. Sony got a trophy for 5th and Windrush for 2nd. We were anounced as Austrians at first until we all yelled out and they then changed it Australians.Seeing the big trophy that we missed out on for the first race has made us determined to do well in the big on ,Centomiglia. Only one problem, the Poms that delivered the boat for us are going to return to the UK on friday night in the hope of getting home to do the UK nationals, what genius made that conflict. We are now talking to everyone that will listen in the hope of getting a boat.
