Brett Burvill and Ryan Duffield finished off their regatta with a win which clinched their defence of their title with hard finishing Lachlan Gibson and Josh Fugill coming in second and Matthew Stone and Dave Hart keeping Jack Benson and Ethan Neaves at bay to hold onto 3rd.
Lachlan and Josh had a chance to take the title with a good result in the last race but failed getting disqualified with a black flag.
Andy Griffin had his best regatta ever finishing in 6th place behind Paul Raymond and Billy Leonard.
Races where scheduled for the lay day and the PRO managed to get 5 races in on the Wednesday with 20 to 25 knots of breeze making it tough on the older crews. There was lots of moaning and groaning from all the crews Wednesday night. It is alleged that some skippers were heard mumbling to crews to “Toughen up Princess” but rumours are hard to substantiate. :)
The forecast for Thursday racing was light breeze but the boys were not let down with 15 to 20 knots coming in from the North for the start of race 6. Although the breeze dropped off during the next couple of races it came back in for the 5th and final race of the day. A general recall saw the PRO bring out the black flag for the restart and no less than 6 boats disqualified on a black flag with testosterone levels running high and getting the better of the crews on the start. With ten races completed the regatta finished with only two days of results giving all a repreive for the Friday which didn't come with any breeze so the decision to race 5 races on Thursday was a good decision by the PRO. All agreed that ten races in two days is a lot for any Tornado crew but all were greatful for getting ten races in for the series.Rowan and Alex Williams finished off a near flawless regatta to take out the Classics division ahead of Trevor Grey and Ian Powell. Dianne Graham showed that men aren’t the only ones who can sail Tornadoes sailing with Skipper Gary Morris coming in 3rd one point ahead of Rory and Gerard O’Dowd who were unlucky in the final race to have a side stay break and end their regatta.
Four Classic Tornadoes competed in the regatta and at times showed the Sports sailors that old Tornadoes aren’t that slow with one or two classics beating several of the sports Tornadoes to the top mark on the first lap on several occasions.
